SNCF TGV Sud-Est 10 Car Special Edition Set IV

SNCF TGV Sud-Est 10 Car Special Edition Set IV

1:160 scale model produced by Kato. This model is ready-to-run straight out of the box and would make a excellent addition to any model railway collection.

  • Analogue DC Model
  • Best suited to Epoch IV Model Railways
  • This model mainly operates in France
  • This model is decorated in SNCF company markings
  • Reproduces the mid-1980s appearance after the intermediate cars were fitted with air suspension bogies, but before the orange-painted nose had the SNCF logo painted over.
  • Faithfully reproduces the distinctive front-end design from the windshield to the roof, including the coupler cover featuring the “SNCF” lettering on the nose.
  • Newly designed AC pantograph (rear-side) with a complex shape is accurately recreated.
  • Reproduces the trainset-specific name illustrations with printed detailing (Set 84: “DIEPPE”, Set 08: “ROUEN”).
  • Equipped with a GM-5 motor with flywheel.
  • Headlights and taillights light up (using warm white LEDs). Includes a dummy circuit board to turn off the headlights/taillights when running in double formation.
  • The coupler cover on the locomotive’s front can be removed, allowing use of the included drawbar to recreate the real train’s 20-car formation.

Details

The TGV Sud-Est was the first generation of France’s high-speed TGV trains, introduced for service on the LGV Sud-Est line between Paris and Lyon, Europe’s inaugural high-speed rail route. Entering service in 1981, these trains initially reached a maximum speed of 260 km/h, which increased to 270 km/h in 1983, surpassing the operating speed of Japan’s Shinkansen at the time. Over subsequent decades, upgrades to both the trainsets and the line enabled operating speeds of up to 300 km/h. The TGV Sud-Est remained in service for many years, becoming an iconic symbol of French engineering and high-speed rail innovation.
